Acrylic nails are a liquid-and-powder enhancement sculpted over your natural nail or over a tip to add strength and length, and they are the most durable option available at L.A Nails in South Bradenton. A full set takes about 75 to 90 minutes and a fill takes about an hour. Fills are needed every two to three weeks as your natural nail grows out.
Acrylic has been the workhorse of this industry for decades because nothing matches it for structural strength. How an acrylic full set is applied
A full set is built, not painted. Each step decides whether it lasts three weeks or three days.
Prep and sizing
Cuticles pushed back, shine lightly buffed, plate dehydrated. Each tip is sized to its own nail bed — one slightly too narrow leaves a sidewall gap that lifts within days.
Sculpting the product
Beads of monomer and powder go on in zones: small at the cuticle, larger at the stress point, thin to the edge. Product touching skin is the main cause of lifting.
Building the apex
The apex sits about a third up from the cuticle and carries the load on impact. Built in the wrong place, a set breaks at the same spot every time.
Filing and refining the shape
The surface is filed to an even curve, sidewalls straightened, edge shaped. The longest stage, and where average and excellent become visible.
Finish — polish, gel or coloured powder
Finished with polish, gel, or left as coloured acrylic in pink and white or ombré. Gel over acrylic is most popular: three weeks of colour on a longer-lasting base.
What affects the price of acrylic nails
Acrylic pricing varies more than any other service because the work genuinely varies. Five factors account for nearly all of it.
Full set versus fill
A full set builds the whole nail from scratch and takes 75 to 90 minutes. A fill refills the regrowth area, rebalances the apex and reshapes — about an hour. Fills are meaningfully less than a full set, which is why keeping to a two-to-three-week schedule is cheaper than letting a set go and starting over.
Length and shape
Short square and squoval sets use less product and less filing time. Long coffin, stiletto and extended almond shapes need more material, more sidewall work and more refinement, so they sit at the higher end. Length is the single biggest price variable in this service.
Colour system
A clear or single-colour acrylic finished with polish is the base price. Pink and white requires a hand-placed smile line on every nail. Ombré requires blending two powders wet so there is no visible transition. Both add significant skilled time.
Removal and repair of a previous set
If you are coming from another salon with a set that needs to come off, that is a soak-off and file-down before we start. Sets with heavy product build-up, or with lifting that has trapped moisture underneath, take longer and are quoted after we look at them.
Nail art and accents
Chrome, foil, hand-painted detail, encapsulated glitter and 3D elements are priced per nail. Most clients put art on one or two nails per hand, which keeps the cost sensible while still changing the whole look of the set.
How to keep an acrylic set healthy
Come in every two to three weeks. As the nail grows the apex moves forward off the stress point, the set goes top-heavy, and lifting at the cuticle traps moisture against the plate. Never pull a lifted nail off — prying takes layers of natural nail with it. Tape it down and come in.

Acrylic Nails — frequently asked questions
How often do acrylic nails need a fill?
Every two to three weeks. By week three the regrowth area is visible and the apex has moved forward, which makes the nail more likely to break. Going four weeks or longer usually means paying for repairs, and past five weeks a full replacement is often the better option.
Do acrylic nails ruin your natural nails?
Not when they are applied and removed correctly. Damage comes from over-filing the natural plate during prep, from letting a set go too long so moisture gets under lifted product, and from prying nails off. A properly maintained and professionally soaked-off set leaves the natural nail intact.
What is the difference between acrylic and dip powder?
Both use a polymer powder, but acrylic is sculpted with liquid monomer on a brush and can build length and structure. Dip powder is layered over a resin and is an overlay — it adds strength and colour but does not extend the nail. Acrylic is stronger; dip is faster and lighter.
Can you fix just one broken acrylic nail?
Yes. Single-nail repairs are a routine walk-in at our 14th St W salon and usually take ten to fifteen minutes. Come in as soon as it breaks rather than waiting for your fill — an exposed natural nail under a broken enhancement is what turns a small repair into a big one.
How long does it take to get a full set of acrylics?
