We pour your chosen powder into a clean tray or sprinkle it on. Your fingers never enter a communal jar — that practice contaminates the powder for everyone after you. Ask any salon how they handle it.
Prep and light buff
Cuticles are pushed back and the plate lightly buffed, then dehydrated. Dip needs slightly more surface texture than gel because the resin grips mechanically. Prep should never thin the nail.
Base resin and first powder layer
Resin goes on one nail at a time and powder is applied while it is still wet, excess brushed off. If the resin starts to set before the powder lands, that nail lifts early.
Second layer and activator
A second resin-and-powder layer builds opacity and strength, then an activator hardens it within about a minute. The hardening is chemical rather than from a lamp or air-curing monomer.
File, shape, seal and finish
The surface is filed smooth and the edge shaped, then a resin sealer and top coat go on. Like gel, dip is fully hard on completion — there is no drying time before you leave.

Dip applied over your own nails is the standard service. Adding tips first to gain length turns it into a longer appointment with an extra material and blending stage, and it is priced accordingly.
Removal of the previous set
Dip removal takes longer than gel — the surface has to be filed to break the seal, then acetone-wrapped for fifteen to twenty minutes. It is real chair time and it is charged for. Removing a dip set applied elsewhere sometimes takes two soaks.
Colour changes and French
A single colour is straightforward. A French dip requires a separate white application over a pink or nude base with a clean smile line on each nail, which adds meaningful time. Encapsulated glitter and multi-colour designs sit higher again.
Fill versus full replacement

How long do dip powder nails last?
Three to four weeks for most people, which is roughly a week longer than gel polish. You will usually see regrowth at the cuticle before you see any chipping or lifting. Hard manual work and frequent hot-water exposure pull that toward three weeks.
Is dip powder sanitary?
It is when it is done correctly. The powder must be poured into a clean tray or sprinkled on for each client — never a shared jar that everyone dips into. At L.A Nails we pour per client. If a salon dips your fingers into a communal pot, that is a legitimate reason to leave.
Does dip powder damage your nails?
The product itself does not. Damage comes from filing too aggressively during prep, and from peeling or prying a set off instead of soaking it. Dip needs a proper acetone soak-off with the top layer filed first, which takes fifteen to twenty minutes.
Can dip powder be filled instead of removed?
For one or two cycles, yes — we fill the regrowth area and reblend. After that, product builds up and the nails start to look thick. At that point a full removal and fresh application gives a much better result, and we will tell you when you have reached it.
Is dip powder the same as SNS?
