A men's manicure and pedicure at L.A Nails is the same nail and skin care women receive, finished with a buffed natural shine instead of colour. It covers trimming, shaping, cuticle work, callus reduction and massage, and takes about 30 minutes for hands and 45 for feet at our Cortez Plaza salon in South Bradenton. No appointment is required, though Friday and Saturday get busy.
A large share of the men who walk in arrive because a partner booked it, a doctor mentioned their feet, or a callus finally got painful enough to act on. Almost all of them come back on their own. It is not complicated and it is not a novelty — it is nail and skin maintenance done properly by somebody with the right tools, and there is no performance about it here.
What men most often come in for
Golfers, boaters, contractors, retirees and office workers all bring different problems through the door.
Thick, hard-to-cut toenails
Years of closed shoes and repeated micro-trauma thicken the plate until household clippers become a wrestling match. Professional nippers and a file reduce it safely and make the nail comfortable in a shoe.
Heel callus and hard skin
The most common single reason men book a pedicure. Golf, yard work and open-back sandals build heavy callus that cracks. Gradual filing after a soak avoids the aggressive regrowth a home rasp causes.
Ingrown toenail edges
Cutting toenails curved at the corners drives the edge into the nail fold. We cut straight across and file the corners just enough to remove sharpness. An inflamed nail goes to a doctor.
Ragged cuticles and hangnails on the hands
If you work with your hands or wash them constantly, the skin around the nail dries and splits. A manicure cleans that up in twenty minutes, and it shows in client-facing work.
What actually happens in the chair
If you have never had one, here is the whole thing. There are no surprises in it.
A short conversation
Your technician asks what is bothering you. Say 'just clean them up' and that is what happens; point at a callus or a problem nail and that becomes the focus. About a minute.
Soak
Hands in a bowl or feet in a warm basin for five to ten minutes, so everything after it is comfortable rather than forced. The basin was scrubbed and disinfected after the last client.
Cut, shape and cuticle work
Nails trimmed and filed to an even length — straight across on toes, slightly rounded on hands. Only dead tissue and hangnails are removed. If anything is painful, say so and it stops.
Callus reduction and exfoliation
A softening agent goes on the heel and ball of the foot, then callus is filed in stages and a scrub follows. We reduce it to comfortable, not to nothing — some thickness is protective.
Massage, buff and finish
A hand or lower-leg massage, then the nail surface is buffed to a low natural shine. No colour unless you ask. You walk straight out — there is nothing to dry.
What affects the price
Priced on the same basis as any other service: time in the chair and how much work is in front of us.
Manicure, pedicure or both
Hands and feet are separate services and most men who come regularly book both together every six to eight weeks. Booking them in one visit is more efficient for scheduling, so tell us on the phone if you want the pair.
How much callus work is needed
A first pedicure after years of no maintenance takes substantially longer than a return visit two months later. If you have never had one, expect the first appointment to be the longest and the most expensive, and the next one to be noticeably shorter.
Toenail thickness and condition
Significantly thickened nails take longer to reduce safely. If several nails are involved, that adds real time. It is worth mentioning when you book so we can allocate it rather than running over into the next client.
Add-ons
Hot stone massage, paraffin for dry hands, extended massage time and a clear or matte top coat are individually priced. None of them are pushed. Paraffin is the one genuinely worth considering if your hands crack in winter or after time on the water.
How often should men book, and does anyone need to know?
Every six to eight weeks covers most men for feet, and four to six for hands. On the discretion question, which comes up more than you would think: a buffed natural finish is genuinely invisible, and roughly a third of the men we see are on a standing schedule nobody in their life knows about. If you are diabetic or have neuropathy, talk to your doctor first and tell us what they said.

- Files, buffers and toe separators are single-use and disposed of after every client.
- Metal implements are cleaned and sterilised between uses.
- Pedicure basins are drained, scrubbed and disinfected between every client.
- Dip powder is poured into a clean tray per client — never a shared jar.
- Cuticles are pushed back, not aggressively cut. Only dead tissue and hangnails are removed.
- Gel, dip and acrylic are removed by acetone soak-off, never scraped or pried off.
- You can ask for your technician by name — we book you with the same person every time.

Do I have to get polish?
No. The standard finish for a men’s manicure or pedicure is a buffed natural shine with no colour at all. Clear and matte top coats are available if you want them for an event, but nothing is applied unless you ask.
How long does a men’s pedicure take?
About 45 minutes, or a little longer on a first visit if there is significant callus or thickened toenails to work through. A men’s manicure takes about 30 minutes. Booking both in one appointment takes roughly an hour and fifteen.
Is it awkward as a guy walking in?
Men are a routine part of our client base at 4525 14th St W, including plenty on standing schedules. Nobody comments and nobody makes a thing of it. Walk in, say what you want done, and it gets done.
Can you deal with really thick toenails?
Yes. Thickened nails are reduced with professional nippers and a file until they sit comfortably in a shoe again. If a nail looks like it may be fungal or otherwise medical, we will tell you honestly and suggest seeing a podiatrist — we do not diagnose or treat conditions.
